Bold or insolent heedlessness of restraints, as of those imposed by prudence, propriety, or convention.
I’ve been thinking about the word audacity of late and the challenge they hold about a way to live one’s life. I’ve realized that I need to be more audacious about living my life.
A yoga teacher once told me that “it’s at the edge where we become more when our legs and body shake is when we discover our unknown inner strength”. I like how Anne Marie put that.
Sometimes the shaking that happens in life doesn’t feel audacious, daring, or like finding inner strength yet in hindsight I can see that this is true.
How in your life are you daring? have you ever considered that travel is an act of audaciousness?
I think there are really strong arguments that life is truly lived at the edge, in that place of discomfort where we are stretched and grow stronger.
When we grab that suitcase and go, we are choosing to welcome the challenge, the vulnerability of not knowing, and the opportunity to grow and change, becoming bigger better humans.
Travel steps us outside ourselves into a new place of experience and we are required to be a bit more fearless and daring. In the moment we must figure out how to overcome the present obstacle, like ordering food off a menu we can’t read and wondering if we just ordered something inedible. When we head out the door, we let our guards down and become open to the possibility of something new.
What great memories come from that little tiny shift in perspective.
When did you last step outside the comfortable and risk a bit more than usual, or do you always play it safe?
Have you ever spent that little bit more money to really dive deeper into the destination how you want to, or do you always save for the someday rainy day?
Think about the last time you took a full week or two off work to go somewhere on your bucket list or is it always to the same places?
To anyone who has bravely
attempted saying “thank you” or “please” in a language different from their own
used hand gestures to try to communicate the questions “how much does that cost” “can I buy that” in a foreign marketplace or store
navigated a public transport system in a city and language unknown
I tip my hat to you!! That’s some serious audacity and courage at work!
Travel and life are about growing into our best selves and finding our inner strength and vision. Adding audacity through travel helps us stretch into newness and greater strength.
How are you going to travel audaciously ?
