🦋 Can you find inner well-being through travel? ✨

So why do you travel?

“When your world moves too fast and you lose yourself in the chaos, introduce yourself to each color of the sunset. Reacquaint yourself with the earth beneath your feet. Thank the air that surrounds you with every breath you take. Find yourself in the appreciation of life.”

– Christy Ann Martine

These are the top 10 reasons people travel collected from various polls across the fine internet –

  1. To get a new perspective, time to think and reflect
  2. To experience something new
  3. To gain a better understanding of the world
  4. To get some distance from work
  5. To relieve stress and boost mental health
  6. To get out of the comfort zone and widen ideas
  7. To admire the beauty of the earth
  8. To learn about other cultures
  9. To strengthen and deepen relationships
  10. To unplug from the 24/7 connected grid

Here’s my answer…

I love to travel for many reasons but when push comes to shove as to one reason …

Well, I travel because it’s the best way for me to clear my head and regain my focus of vision.  Getting away from my standing routine, even when I take my laptop along, allows me to see the world around me differently and opens my heart to possibilities not previously seen.

I’ve used travel for as far back as I can remember as a way to reconnect with who I am deep in my core. The swirling voices of friends, family, and work that carry all the varied expectations and definitions of who I am, suddenly become quiet when I’m on the road or even just on a staycation in a hotel nearby.

But this does not mean I need quiet, restful, beach-filled getaways. Certainly soaking up the sun on a white-sand beach next to turquoise waters (hello Body Holiday) is a beautiful way to find my inner chill but … equally as effective for clearing my mind is a week hiking in the mountains, pedaling a bike across Iowa, or sailing in the big blue sea. (looking at you Lodge at Blue Sky)

Being physically active is a powerful way to stop my mind from spinning and allow it to rest while my body concentrates pointedly on the upcoming hill or the incoming swell. There isn’t time to think of anything else so physical active vacations are also a way I find space for calm.

I know we all find our inner well-being differently, particularly when we travel.  For some it may be on the lido deck of a cruise ship, for others, it’s focusing the camera on a rare bird they’ve happened upon out hiking in a remote area, while others need to hear the loud thumping of their heart as they crest the top of the ridge.

Our hearts and minds are all soothed differently.

I travel to reconnect with my inner self, that’s my well-being.

Why do you travel?

I’d love to know.
