Why South Africa should be on your Bookitlist
The reasons to visit South Africa, a vast and culturally diverse nation, are seemingly endless, and that’s why it makes it on so many people’s bucket lists.
Do those peak your interest a bit? Here are four quick reasons you should make it to South Africa at least once in your life…
Going on Safari for most is a once in a lifetime experience and South Africa should be top of the list.
Staying at a safari camp is an experience like no other. Finding the right one is important, this isn’t a place to use best guess planning. At a well established safari camp, your morning and evening game drives are lead by well-trained and certified guides. These guides work hard to bring you close to the ‘Big Five’. When you head off the dirt road you can know that soon you’ll see a member of this magnificent group: lions, elephants, rhinos, cape buffalo, or leopards.
Most times these guides will bring you the opportunity to maybe see the ‘Little Five’, a less well-known grouping: Leopard Tortoise, Elephant Shrew, Buffalo Weaver, Rhinoceros Beetle, Ant Lion. (in included a picture of a pangolin because I find them oddly cute)
Many of the safari camps and safari tours offer youth programs, age-appropriate, hands-on activities. These will bring South Africa alive for your children and build memories for life. What a gift to give your family.
As one of South Africa’s three capitals, the Mother City is one that you must explore. Not only is it one of the top holiday destinations in the entire world, but it’s full of natural, exotic beauty you can’t find anywhere else.
There’s excellent food, plenty of beaches, and, last but not least, Table Mountain.
Small waves and the gentle swell of the ocean provide the perfect conditions for learning to surf!
Situated in the South Peninsula, Muizenberg is known for its laid-back lifestyle centered around the ocean. Famous for its colorful bungalows on the beach, the town is a picturesque destination.
Of course, the long sandy beach, stretching for miles around the False Bay coastline, only adds to this slice of surfers’ paradise.
For some of the most breathtaking coastline views, take the Garden Route from Mossel Bay to Storms River. Visit and view small towns, rugged shores, sandy beaches, and thick forests.
It’s easy to navigate and explore nearby destinations. South Africa makes it easy to get around with its well-established and maintained road network and infrastructure. You can quickly hire a car at the airport and discover this country road by road.
With nearly 9,000 plant species found naturally in this area, it’s no surprise that many of South Africa’s traditional remedies are based on the curative properties of plants.
Rooibos is a bush that only grows in the Western Cape. It is said to have 50 times more antioxidants than green tea. The sour-fig plant is widespread across South Africa’s coastal regions.
The plant’s fruit is often used to make jam. Its leaf juice is considered to have antiseptic properties and is used to treat cuts, insect bites, and sunburn.
South Africa has a rich heritage of traditional herbal remedies, thanks to the country’s abundance of indigenous plants known for their healing properties.
The list of reasons to visit South Africa certainly doesn’t end after just four things. We haven’t talked about wine country, UNESCO sites, food scene, and so much more. South Africa is not just a destination for a lifetime, it’s a destination for a lifetime.
If South Africa is on your life itinerary, let’s get started planning your vacation!
